A new/old landing site

Hello there.

As you may notice, I've not updated my blogsite in ... more than three years. Is it still a blog? Probably not. But I have refreshed this page anyway.

Sometime around Thanksgiving 2025, the WordPress lease for my personal blog and URL will come due. It's not a lot of money, but more money than it's worth to me to maintain it. I moved everything over here because Alphabet/Google/Blogger isn't charging anything to continue the site. Yet.

So what once was the Deregulator blog, with a fresh coat of paint and a new name on the shingle, survives. Along with a couple decades of material that I'm not ready to surrender to the ether ... yet. Almost everything I wrote over a decade-plus in newspapers is gone. Online, at least. Sites erect paywalls or disappear entirely. (I have clips, but I don't plan to digitize them.)

The other stuff that for some reason I consider worth keeping is either here, or accessible through here. See the associated page for those links.

Why keep blogging? I have thoughts to share, but don't necessarily want to shove them at you (if you follow me on Facebook or YouTube), and if I revived a Substack newsletter, there's some expectation you post things regularly, seek subscribers, or — horrors — try to charge for subscriptions. I tried that twice. It was too stressful. Thank you to those who joined me back then. I'm sorry it didn't pan out.

This portal provides a chance to say things, and if people want to engage, come on down. If not, no worries.

I'll continue on Facebook. I'll post silly and usually mediocre ukulele videos on YouTube. I'll post notes at my Substack handle. I may even promote posts here at those places.

Why leave Deregulator? It was another time with a different history and geography. I chose "Artificial Irrelevance" as a bit of joke. But it has some personal and professional resonance.

The nice thing about this site: It costs nothing but my time to maintain and update. The less nice thing: The original layout is not very dynamic. I'll mess around with features if it seems worthwhile without messing up the vibe. I like the vibe.

Otherwise, drop by if you like. If not, carry on.
